Tanzania has a rich history dating back to the Stone Age. The earliest known human settlements were found in the northern part of the country. During the Iron Age, the region was ruled by many different empires. In the 19th century, the British colonized Tanzania and made it a protectorate.

In 1964, Tanzania gained its independence from Britain. After independence, the country experienced many economic difficulties and civil wars. In 1997, Tanzania became a democratic nation and began to develop its economy. Today, Tanzania is one of the fastest growing economies in Africa and one of the most stable countries in the world.

About Tanzania
Tanzania (/taenzni/; Swahili: [tanzani.a]) is a nation in East Africa that is part of the African Great Lakes area. Its official name is the United Republic of Tanzania (Swahili: Jamhuri ya Muungano wa Tanzania). Uganda is to the north, Kenya is to the northeast, the Comoro Islands are to the east, the Indian Ocean is to the east, Mozambique and Malawi are to the south, Zambia is to the southwest, and Rwanda, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo are to the west. Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s tallest peak, is located in Tanzania’s northeastern region.Download NIDA number Copy Online | National ID – Kitambulisho cha Taifa

Many notable hominid fossils, including 6-million-year-old Pliocene hominid fossils, have been discovered in Tanzania. Between 4 and 2 million years ago, the species Australopithecus roamed Africa, and the earliest remnants of the genus Homo can be discovered near Lake Olduvai. Following the 1.8 million-year-old ascent of Homo erectus, humans moved over the Old World, and then into the New World and Australia as Homo sapiens. H. sapiens also conquered Africa and assimilated the previous human species.

Prehistoric migrations into Tanzania later in the Stone and Bronze Age included Southern Cushitic speakers who moved south from present-day Ethiopia; Eastern Cushitic people who moved north of Lake Turkana between 2,000 and 4,000 years ago; and the Southern Nilotes, including the Datoog, who originated between 2,900 and 2,400 years ago from the present-day South Sudan–Ethiopia border region.

[ These migrations occurred at the same time when the Mashariki Bantu from West Africa settled in the Lake Victoria and Lake Tanganyika basins. Between 2,300 and 1,700 years ago, they spread over the remainder of Tanzania.

German authority in mainland Tanzania started in the late 1800s, when Germany established German East Africa. Following World War I, British control took over. The mainland was administered by Tanganyika, while the Zanzibar Archipelago was administered by a distinct colonial authority. The two countries combined in 1964 to establish the United Republic of Tanzania, after gaining independence in 1961 and 1963, respectively. Tanzania is still a member of the Commonwealth as a single republic, having entered the British Commonwealth in 1961.

Tanzania has a population of 56.31 million people, which is slightly less than South Africa and makes it the second-most populated nation wholly south of the Equator, according to the United Nations. Around 120 ethnic, linguistic, and religious groups make up the population. Tanzania is a presidential constitutional republic, and Dodoma has served as the country’s formal capital since 1996, housing the president’s office, the National Assembly, and all government departments. Dar es Salaam, the historic capital, still houses major government offices and serves as the country’s biggest metropolis, main port, and economic hub. Tanzania is a de facto one-party state, with the Chama Cha Mapinduzi Democratic Socialist Party in control.

In the north-east, where Mount Kilimanjaro is situated, Tanzania is hilly and thickly wooded. Tanzania is home to three of Africa’s Great Lakes. Lake Victoria, Africa’s biggest lake, and Lake Tanganyika, the continent’s deepest lake, are located to the north and west, respectively. Lake Malawi is to the south. With the Zanzibar Archipelago immediately offshore, the eastern coast is hot and humid. Zanzibar’s biggest marine protected area is the Menai Bay Conservation Area. The Kalambo Falls, on the Kalambo River near the Zambian border, is Africa’s second-highest continuous cascade.

Tanzania’s biggest religion is Christianity, however there are significant Muslim and Animist minority. Tanzania has over 100 distinct languages, making it the most linguistically varied nation in East Africa. Although Swahili is the national language, the country lacks a de jure official language. Swahili is utilized in legislative debates, lower judicial proceedings, and as a basic school language. Although the Tanzanian government plans to remove English as a main language of teaching, it will be accessible as an optional subject in secondary and higher education. Approximately 10% of Tanzanians speak Swahili as their first language, with up to 90% speaking it as a second.Download NIDA number Copy Online | ID Namba- Kitambulisho cha Taifa
